I was born in China and graduated from China Foreign Affairs University with a Masters degree in Economics. I completed various kinds of internships while in school: at the United Nations headquarters, State Council of People’s Republic of China (PRC), Ministry of Commerce of PRC, Motorola HR department, The World Economics Forum, the list goes on. Needless to say, I was determined to land the best opportunity when I graduated.

I found that opportunity in Human Resources at Deutsche Bank. Through my work in HR, I see the Bank from the back office to the front lines. Our focus and emphasis on the ‘One Bank Culture’ has a lot to do with this experience, and everyone talks about how our passion to perform has a global reach - our culture embraces the individual while making  you feel like you belong to a community.

Looking back, I sensed from the very beginning that DB was somewhere exceptional. I knew that I was making the right decision when I joined. How right I was, I find out more every day. The two years I’ve experienced here make me proud of my decision. If you get the opportunity, choose Deutsche Bank. Don’t hesitate.

I applied for and participated in our Analyst Internship Program in 2006. Although I had completed internships with other companies, they were no comparison to my DB experience. In the HR department, I helped support our Private & Business Clients division. This internship really validated my passion for what I do today. I received and accepted an offer to join the Analyst Training Program at the end of that summer.

Thus began my Analyst career, starting with global induction training in London. Perhaps the best thing about this training was the chance to network with grads from all over the world, especially HR grads. Being exposed to the abundant financial and HR knowledge proved very useful in my career. After the induction, my Analyst rotations commenced in earnest.

I did various rotations in HR Operations, Learning & Development and Resourcing. I then completed a short rotation with DBOI in Bangalore, India. I even traveled to Singapore and attended regional networking events co-hosted by DB and Insead. During my year of rotation, I became involved in several global and regional projects with other grads. After a rotation in Beijing, I assumed my full-time position as a HR Business Partner there.

As a HR Business Partner my main job is collaborating with senior Business Partners to service our businesses. We are responsible for the employees working in CBC (Corporate Bankin Coverage), part of the Global Banking division.

Serving as a HR professional for two years, the biggest challenge is equipping yourself with the same level of financial knowledge as your business clients. You have to speak the same language literally and figuratively, knowing the same ‘in-speak’ and jargon. This is particularly important in the role of Business Partner, where you are working shoulder to shoulder with your business.

My position affords me the opportunity to learn from so many different colleagues. I take part in cross-divisional projects and comprehensive training courses. In addition, I benefited greatly from a one-year mentorship program. My mentor was a senior VP in the China HR team. Looking forward, I’d like as much exposure to each area of HR as possible, including all the different divisions and functions. Then, I plan to dive into a more specialized role.

My passion was, is and continues to be for HR. I love working with people, keeping touch with clients and the dynamics of developing talent. The true beauty of HR is the sweeping view it provides of all the business areas within DB. Within other departments, your contact generally is more limited to the workings of your business. But not with my position.

Outside of work, I like to hang out with friends, go to movies and sing karaoke. I also love getting out and exploring everything that Beijing has to offer. This can involve taking tours inside and outside the city (because Beijing’s an incredibly big place...big in terms of size and scale but also in terms of history, growth and the merging of so many cultures).

One of the most moving experiences of my life was being here for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, seeing China formally take its place on the main stage of everything international. It meant so much more than just sports and competition. I attended the final men’s basketball game, volleyball, tennis and several running events. So fun!

In keeping with sports and activity, my favorite sport is badminton, and I’m a proud member of the DB badminton club.
