Since the opening of its first office in Thailand in 1978, Deutsche Bank has continued to expand its presence in this country where it today employs more than 140 people through its full-service corporate and investment bank and its significant local Private Wealth Management business. While Deutsche Bank’s first clients were German or multinational companies doing business in Thailand, its clients are now overwhelmingly Thai across the spectrum of its operations. Deutsche Bank’s Bangkok office has also been a traditional leader in transaction banking and was named Best International Trade Bank in Thailand in Euromoney magazine's 2008 Awards for Excellence.
“Over the last 30 years Deutsche Bank has not only maintained its presence in Thailand, even through the tumultuous Asian financial crisis of the late 90s, but has significantly expanded its footprint,” explained Chief Country Officer for Thailand Manfred Schmoelz. “We are proud to have stayed committed to Thailand over the last 30 years, through the highs and lows of economic cycles; and to have a profitable and strongly growing business here. Today we see a country transformed and vitalised – one with the emergence of many local corporations onto the world stage; a progressive financial system; and a unique and thriving local culture.”
The considerable growth of Deutsche Bank’s businesses in Thailand precipitated the recent move to new premises at Athenee Tower on Wireless Road.

The works by leading Thai and German artists were on display to the public at Deutsche Bank’s new Athenee Tower offices. The exhibition comprised 40 works, and is a celebration of 14 of the world’s most vibrant and talented contemporary artists.
“Deutsche Bank is proud to have been an active participant and supporter of both the development of Thailand’s dynamic financial markets and its thriving arts scene,” said Chief Country Officer for Thailand Manfred Schmoelz. “At Deutsche Bank we believe art fosters creativity, opening minds to innovative solutions, providing a vital stimulus to growth. We have a view of social citizenship as an integral part of the way we do business.”
In 1978, the same year that Deutsche Bank established its footprint in Thailand, the Bank began to acquire the works of young artists. Today the collection of more than 56,000 pieces is one of the largest corporate art collections in the world, and one of the best collections of contemporary Thai art. Deutsche Bank displays the works worldwide in its own exhibitions and loans them to museums with a view to spurring young artists to exceptional creative achievement.
