Deutsche Bank assists Asia Pacific emergency relief efforts
October 2, 2009

Following a devastating week of severe weather and natural disasters affecting the Asia Pacific region, Deutsche Bank has made several immediate commitments to assist emergency relief efforts in the Philippines, Vietnam, and with Indonesia.

Deutsche Bank will also provide further aid funding for the rehabilitation of affected local communities, including a region-wide commitment to the Red Cross to support its earthquake, flooding and tsunami related aid work. Deutsche Bank’s initial donations total more than USD 100,000.

Earlier in the week, Typhoon Ketsana (Ondoy) devastated local communities in both the Philippines and Vietnam, particularly with its resultant flooding. In response, initial funds were pledged by Deutsche Bank to the Philippine National Red Cross, the SM Foundation, and GMA Kapuso Foundation to support the emergency relief and medical assistance efforts. Meanwhile in Vietnam, Deutsche Bank has contributed to the centralised emergency relief efforts led locally by the national government.

More recently, strong multiple earthquakes struck Indonesia off the coast of Sumatra on consecutive days. Reports indicate a large number of casualties and significant damage to buildings and infrastructure in Padang. Initial funds for emergency relief will be pledged by Deutsche Bank today.

In addition to these contributions to assist with immediate emergency relief needs, Deutsche Bank will confirm further specific local projects in support of efforts to rehabilitate social infrastructure, such as schools, in the coming weeks and months.
