Deutsche Bank initially donated USD 200,000 to support disaster relief efforts for Chile, including the proceeds from net agency Chilean equity trading commissions on March 2. These funds will be directed to Fundación CasaBásica, a Chilean charity with long-standing ties to Deutsche Bank that is dedicated to housing and community development in low-income areas of Chile and Peru. The donation is being made in the honor of the young son of an employee who died as a result of the quake.
As part of its continued support of relief operations in Chile, Deutsche Bank has raised additional USD 1,000,000 in net agency commissions and client-related revenues earned by its Latin American equity, debt and credit default swap trading teams on Wednesday, 17 March. These funds raised will also directly assist immediate relief activities for the people of Chile through partnerships with local foundations including CasaBásica as well.
In addition to these donations, Deutsche Bank is offering unlimited, expedited matching gifts to US employees supporting Chilean relief efforts through the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation's Matching Gifts Program, which will be channeled through Fundación CasaBásica and AmeriCares. Through this multifaceted approach, Deutsche Bank hopes to help Chile in its rescue and recovery efforts.
Deutsche Bank has a long history of operations in Chile. It opened a representative office in Santiago in 1954, and in 2000 became the first foreign bank in Chile in 20 years, after being granted a banking license. All Deutsche Bank staff are safe and accounted for after the February 27 quake.
