Deutsche Bank in the United Kingdom
Deutsche Bank’s presence in the UK dates back to 1873, when it opened a branch in London. This became the Bank’s most important foreign branch, until its closure at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
Deutsche Bank returned to London in 1973 with a representative office, which was converted into a branch in 1976. In 1989 Deutsche acquired the merchant bank Morgan Grenfell, and in 1994, amidst the City’s increasing prominence on the global financial stage, Deutsche Bank combined its investment banking activities under one management in London.
Today, with over 8,000 London-based employees representing 90 nationalities, Deutsche Bank AG is one of the largest employers and occupiers of office space in the Square Mile. Deutsche Bank’s London operations generate around 1/3 of global Corporate and Investment Banking revenues.
Deutsche Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities in the UK have won a number of awards and cover over 70 local community partnership activities.
