Creating Opportunity

Creating Opportunity - Social Investments

We believe that inclusive communities make for a healthy and successful society. Our work in this area focuses on a number of specific issues faced by the London communities.

As one of the largest employers in the City we know how important it is to find the right people for the right jobs. The nature of our business, and our size, means we have a wealth of recruitment, development and training expertise to share with our communities to help build the employability skills and boost the entrepreneurial spirit that exists. However we also recognise that this kind of learning is not a “one size fits all”. This is why we support a number of organisations with different approaches – from using sport to engage, volunteers to support practical needs and “stealth learning” to increase the most basic of skills in the most reluctant of learners! Throughout all of our work we aim to build the confidence and skills of those furthest from mainstream society. Our activities are broken down into six key areas:

  • Neighbourhood Renewal
Initiatives that build the capacity of grassroots organisations and enable them to improve their local service delivery.
    Spitalfields Together

  • Homelessness
Addressing the causes of homelessness and helping the homeless to re-integrate themselves back into society.
    Missing People Case Study

  • Community Development Finance
Exploring alternative sources of finance for charities and social enterprises in the UK.

  • Microfinance
Bringing the power of credit to the grassroots via loans to the poor, without the requirements of collateral or previous credit experience.
    Deutsche Bank Microcredit Development Fund

  • Business & Employability
Supporting the development of both business and entrepreneurs and working with those furthest from the labour market to help them find appropriate and sustainable employment.
    Deutsche Bank Awards

  • Educational Outreach
Projects that work with NEET groups and guide them back into mainstream education, training or employment.

  • Community Sport
Projects that build skills and achievements, improve community cohesion and participation and reduce crime / social exclusion.
