To support our investments in communities, thousands of employees globally commit time, expertise, leadership and knowledge to numerous non-profit activities. In the UK we have an extensive corporate volunteering programme working with the organisations we fund to provide employment advice, mentoring relationships, reading and maths support and the commitment of becoming a trustee for a charity or a social enterprise. In 2010, 1,600 employees volunteered from graduates to our chief executive.
As well as volunteering we also have an employee led fundraising programme called Charities of the Year. UK employees nominate and vote for UK based charities close to their hearts, once selected these charities organise fundraising events throughout the year. In 2010, we raised over £1.7 million for Afrikids and the Marine Conservation Society. In 2011 we are working with The Eve Appeal and War Child.
