GUIDANCE NOTES ON SUBMITTING PROPOSALS TO DEUTSCHE BANK FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUNDING

We are committed to working on behalf of the communities in which we live and work, with the same passion with which we endeavour to achieve only the best on behalf of our clients. To this aim, we invest not just money, but a full range of strategies and assets to enhance the communities where the Bank operates, bringing positive change to those most in need throughout the world.

Globally, we aim to create sustainable projects that nurture diversity, create opportunities and grow society’s human capital. This global strategy is developed and implemented locally by experienced teams. Each region has responsibility for evaluating its activities and reporting on a regular basis to a body of senior business representatives and our global head office. In the UK, “Deutsche Bank Corporate Citizenship UK (CC UK)” manages this.

CC UK implements four of the Bank’s five global themes (Education, Social Investments, Corporate Volunteering and Art) locally. To this end we provide support for projects which benefit our local communities only (primarily in London) and specifically within the two following areas:

1. EDUCATION

The Bank does not support primary or specialist schools. We have a list of target secondary schools in Greater London. More specifically we fund programmes that support:
  • Retention - projects that ease the transition between primary and secondary schools, reduce absenteeism, and help prevent exclusion.
  • Achievement - projects that raise the aspirations, achievements and attainment levels, with a particular focus on financial literacy, business awareness, functional and soft skills.
  • Progression - projects that educate, encourage, and prepare for progression into further and higher education, training and employment.

2. SOCIAL INVESTMENTS

We focus on disadvantaged communities, prioritising our neighbouring boroughs.

  • Neighbourhood Renewal – initiatives that build the capacity of grassroots organisations and enable them to improve their local service delivery.
  • Homelessness – addressing the causes of homelessness and helping the homeless to re-integrate themselves back into society.
  • Employment & Employability - supporting the development of both business and social entrepreneurs and working with those furthest from the labour market to help them find appropriate and sustainable employment.
  • Educational Outreach - projects that work with NEET groups and guide them back into mainstream education, training or employment.
  • Community Sport - projects that build skills and achievements, improve community cohesion and participation and reduce crime / social exclusion.

Within the above themes, projects supported must have the following characteristics:

  • Demonstrate value for money and value adding
  • Engage employees
  • Have a clear plan for sustainability beyond Deutsche Bank’s funding  (we tend not to provide “emergency funding” but build long-term relationships)
  • Have a strong evaluation methodology ie, be able to quantify impact as well as qualify it
  • Innovative
  • Relevant to our business
  • Responsive to local issues
  • Show evidence of demand
  • Where additional funding can be leveraged as a result of Deutsche Bank support
  • Where the Bank can demonstrate leadership
  • Where the Bank’s funding does not amount to more than 30% of a project’s annual funding requirements.

Additionally, Deutsche Bank classifies programmes and partnerships on a Life Enhancing / Life Changing scale of 1 – 10 where:

  • 1 = Life Enhancing (i.e., broad reach, lighter impact such as one-off events/experiences that enhance an individual’s life);
  • 10 = Life Changing (i.e., perhaps narrower reach with higher impact involving a sustained and tailored programme of activities with intense support, advice and guidance).

Should you wish to submit a proposal please indicate where you feel your project sits on this scale.

Deutsche Bank’s Community Development programme does not support projects or organisations that are delivering outside of our focus themes as outlined above. We also do not support:

  • Animal welfare projects
  • Capital projects
  • Drugs related projects
  • Heritage projects
  • Individual sponsorship
  • Medical, medical research or disability charities
  • Charities or initiatives with religious / political objectives
  • Sponsorship of events / tables for projects not associated with our core community development activities

Process

  • Due diligence of all new proposals is undertaken by Deutsche Bank CC UK.
  • Funding applications are approved by the Bank’s UK Charities Committee, which comprises of representatives from the various business areas. The Committee generally meets on a monthly basis.
  • Our community partners are required to report on the impact of the Deutsche Bank supported programme every six months using evaluation guidelines developed by CC UK.
