Career Workshop Development Series encourages youth to plan for their careers

July 2016 │ Hong Kong

On June 30, Deutsche Bank Chief Operating Office Technology and Operations in Hong Kong invited 20 students from SAHK B M Kotewall Memorial School and Wa Ying College to visit the office for a day of career building activities.

The event was part of the Bank’s Career Workshop Development Series to help special-abled and underprivileged youth discover their career aspirations. The activities provided students with the opportunity to engage with business professionals and experience an office environment. In the last Career Workshop Day held in January, employees trained the students in resume building and conducted mock job interviews.

In the most recent career day, volunteers led a group discussion on banking careers and also discussed their personal careers growth. Students had an opportunity to ask questions on any topic such as their own career options based on interests. One of the volunteers also created a game where the students engaged in simulated securities trading, which led to much fun and competitive excitement, and a good learning experience.

The event ended with an office tour. Students are very eager to see “people working”, simply put by one student. They visited the operations and technology floors and were greeted by several different teams. It was an eye opening experience for the students to see more than 100 people in an open office setting working together.

Students were shown conference rooms, video conferencing, and think tanks. A video conference call was also held with Deutsche Bank employees in the Tokyo office. As the volunteers hoped, the day left a strong positive impression on the students to think positively and plan for their careers.
