October 2016 │ Mauritius

The OpenMind / Homestop Social Entrepreneur Shop in Bagatelle, Mauritius was officially opened by Friedrich Philipps, Chief Country Officer Mauritius, the Honourable Mrs Fazila Jeewa Daureeawoo, Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity and Reform Institutions in late August.

For the past four years, Deutsche Bank Mauritius has been supporting OpenMind, a non-profit that supports the welfare, development and rehabilitation of persons suffering from psychological disorders. OpenMind runs various programmes, including art therapy and horticultural therapy, as well as capacity development training to improve skills sets for employability.

Under OpenMind’s Social Entrepreneurship Programme, 26 beneficiaries are trained in crafts to produce handmade eco-products, which are now sold in the shop. Proceeds are channeled back to the beneficiaries through the programme.
