Deutsche Bank scholars in Philippines celebrate their achievements

June 2017 │ Philippines

In the last week of May, Families and Children for Empowerment and Development (FCED) Foundation held a graduation and turnover ceremony for Deutsche Bank-supported scholars in Manila, Philippines.

Graduating students led the scholars as they showcased their various talents in expressing gratitude for the scholarship programme. The students’ individual achievements were also celebrated with the handing out of medals and certificates, and all current scholars were later each given a backpack containing school supplies.

Annie Yeo, Head of CSR Asia who attended the ceremony with Pilar Manzano, Chief Operating Officer of Deutsche Knowledge Services, congratulated the scholars on their achievements, “They may be living in shantytowns, some in homes without any lighting, but their resolve to lead better lives than their parents is humbling and inspirational.”

Since the start of the scholarship programme in 2009, as part of Born to Be, Deutsche Bank has provided education subsidies, transportation, food and healthcare to 300 children and youth. More than 70 scholars have since graduated from college, many of whom are gainfully employed and helping fellow scholars who are still in the programme.
