Sharing the joy of reading with the young and old

August 2017 │ Singapore

Read for Books, part of the National Reading Movement in Singapore, is a charity book drive aimed at celebrating and sharing the joy of reading. For every ten people who read for 15 minutes, Deutsche Bank sponsors a book donation to a child, as part of Born to Be.

On July 22, Deutsche Bank organised an educational day out at the National Library for 100 children from Life Community Services Society, where they enjoyed reading-related activities to encourage them to read more, read widely and read together. More than 50 Deutsche Bank volunteers read to the children and engaged them in a fun scavenger hunt at the children’s library where they learned how to navigate the library and its many resources.

“It’s extremely rewarding to see a child, who earlier declared he did not like reading, submit a book review marking a book he just read as 5 stars,” a volunteer commented.

A week later, on National Reading Day which also marks the end of the Read for Books campaign, Deutsche Bank volunteers, including Chandra Mallika, Chief Operating Officer APAC, visited Lions Home for the Elders to read to the residents and engage them in interactive activities such as memory games.
