Brightening the season for Sri Jinananda Children’s Home orphans

December 2015 │ Sri Lanka

Christmas, a magical time that brings families and friends together to share joy and happiness, saw Deutsche Bank Colombo celebrating and sharing the season with the orphans of Sri Jinananda Children’s Home on Wednesday, December 15, 2015.

The Christmas party, themed “Reindeer, Mistletoe and Good Samaritan’s”, was organised by the Colombo Branch’s Corporate Responsibility team, and funded from staff donations. A call for donations sent to staff raised double the funding target, enabling the organising committee to piece together a plan for a truly magical Christmas for the children.

On the day of the event, the Bank’s car park was turned into a winter wonderland. The Deutsche Bank family gathered at the venue to welcome the children and their caretakers upon arrival, making them feel welcome throughout the event.

The children were invited to enjoy a Christmas feast, and entertained with games and activities, as well as a magic show. In return, the children put on a performance of dance and Christmas carols for Deutsche Bank staff. Santa Claus also distributed gifts for all the children. The beaming smiles on the children’s faces when they received the gifts made it all worthwhile for the organising team.

In his brief address, Deutsche Bank Colombo’s Chief Country Officer, Rohan Rodrigo encouraged the children to work hard towards achieving a brighter future. He made special note of how staff members from all religions and ethnicities came forward to contribute in numerous ways, making the event a success, and concluded by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. The children and their guardians then thanked the Bank for the organizing the event and sharing the joy of Christmas with them. It was truly remarkable to see how such a simple gesture impacted the lives of these less fortunate children.

The joy, laughter and happiness that echoed throughout the Bank left a lasting impression amongst the Deutsche Bank family.
Sri Jinananda Children’s Home was established over 25 years ago with five children. Today, it is home to more than 55 boys aged between three to 19 years old from all over the Island. Each of these children has a story of their own, with many of them coming from broken and underprivileged homes.
