Bringing cheer to an old age home in Bangalore

January 2017 │ India

As part of the year-end holiday season, the Bangalore Corporate Social Responsibility team organised a visit to an old age home managed by Nightingales Medical Trust, with 24 volunteers visiting the home to spend quality time with the senior citizens living there.

To create a festive atmosphere, some volunteers sang songs and entertained the seniors. Clothes and cakes were distributed, and season’s greetings exchanged. In appreciation for the volunteers’ efforts, many of the elderly also took turns to sing for the volunteers.

The senior citizens were extremely happy with their new clothes. Bangalore Near and Offshore Centre (NOC) had conducted the programme for the past six years, with some long term residents remembering past years’ programme fondly and many looking forward to future interactions with the volunteers.

The volunteers were also given a tour of the Alzheimer’s care unit managed by Nightingales Medical Trust in the same building, which provided them with valuable information about Alzheimer’s care and management from the trained care takers. Volunteers also had the opportunity to get to meet some individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s.
