Every child has a right to sight. In Sri Lanka, children in remote areas do not have access to eye clinics and those who suffer from eye ailments are not able to receive any help. Often, these ailments – which can be as simple as myopia – worsen as they grow older, and affect other aspects of their lives.
As part of Born to Be, Deutsche Bank supports the Vision 2020 project, which screens school children in rural area and provides spectacles to needy children free of charge. This project sends medical officers into schools to provide eye check-ups and prescription spectacles to those who need them. The simple solution of providing spectacles makes a huge impact on how these children perform academically in school. Children with more serious visual ailments are referred for appropriate treatment.
Deutsche Bank volunteers frequently travel with the medical officers to remote schools, providing administrative assistance. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
