Deutsche Bank-Metropolitan Youth Orchestra scholarship awarded to six young musicians

May 2017 │ Hong Kong

Auditions for the 2017/2018 Deutsche Bank-Metropolitan Youth Orchestra scholarship were held at the Deutsche Bank Hong Kong office last month. The panel of judges which included Donna Chang, Chief Operating Officer, Hong Kong and Annie Yeo, Head of CSR Asia, along with MYO music directors and coaches, were impressed with the young candidates.

There were so many highly talented young musicians that the judges could not decide which four candidates to award the scholarship to. After carefully considering each candidate, the bank decided to award two additional scholarships, bringing the total number of scholars to six: Au Chin Hung, Au Yeung Yat Hei, Mok Tsz Him, Pang Yuk Shing, Pang Yuk Lam, Yuen Lap Yan Henry.

Beginning last year, as part of Born to Be, Deutsche Bank works with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO) to provide music scholarships to promising young talents in Hong Kong from disadvantaged backgrounds. The scholarship includes weekly training sessions with the orchestra and a summer overseas music tour in London, which will allow the scholars to learn and perform with London Mozart Players, the longest established professional chamber orchestra in the United Kingdom. The scholars will also have the opportunity to take centre stage in an annual concert sponsored by the bank to be held on October 2 this year, with world renowned one-handed violinist, Adrian Anantawan.
