Deutsche Bank Singapore supports youth entrepreneurship

December 2015 │ Singapore

December 2015 concluded a year of support for Halogen Foundation, which works to provide leadership and entrepreneurship development to youth in Singapore.

Throughout 2015 Deutsche Bank Singapore partnered with Halogen Foundation to support their entrepreneurship programme, Network for Entrepreneurship Teaching, which aims to give youth from disadvantaged and underprivileged backgrounds a leg up.

Volunteers were engaged in three coaching events -- a business plan judging competition and two corporate visits for five secondary schools.

The coaching events represented an extension of a 60 hours / 10 Day business camp, where students learn Entrepreneurship basics through experiential activities and games, and are encouraged to develop a business plan of their own and pitch their idea to a panel of judges. Deutsche Bank volunteers sat on the judging panel on the final day of the business camp, helping to boost the students’ performance.

The subsequent corporate visits to the Bank provided a real-world simulation of what the students learnt during the camp. The visits involved a tour of the One Raffles Quay office, insights into banking and finance, and activities that ranged from learning value of investing to delivering a sales pitch.

All events presented a unique opportunity for the Bank’s volunteers to apply their professional skills to mentoring students, and create a positive social impact.

One volunteer said, “I really enjoyed the event – it’s so good to help kids like this by leveraging our professional skills.”

Halogen Foundation Singapore works to provide leadership and entrepreneurship development to youth in Singapore. Through its Entrepreneurship program, the Foundation seeks to give a leg up to youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who are at risk of dropping education.
