Third- and fourth-year students of the University of the Philippines – College of Fine Arts (UP-CFA) who submitted entries to last November’s art competition were recognised and awarded in late February. The students’ art works were reviewed and evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges.
After much deliberation, the top three winners were chosen to receive the Deutsche Bank ‘Excellence in Art’ Award for 2013:
First Prize – Alfonso, Jose Ferdinand Sumilang
Second Prize – Dellosa, Chloe
Third Prize – Rosette, Judith Camille
The other finalists are:
De Laza, Carlo Paterno
Lopez, Pete Cenon Parale
Dagmang, Nathalie Delos Santos
Paredes, Nel Diamond Diwa
Bacay, John Lauren Tesorero
Puyat, Miguel Luis Adobo
Baldovino, Jacques Andre San Pablo
Joven, Jonathan Laborera
Aside from these awards and citations, the students also received cash prizes for their work. Most importantly, these works are now proudly displayed in the DKS offices, giving the young up-and-coming students exposure.
“Art has not only contributed to our culture but it has also elevated our stature as a people in the international arena as evidenced by the works of our top Filipino artists,” said Deutsche Bank's Chief Country Officer for the Philippines, Enrico Cruz. “The first art competition of the project is themed ‘Innovation’, one of Deutsche Bank’s values, something we would like the students to share with us,” he added.
This event marked the first year of the 'Appreciating Art in Deutsche Bank' Programme and coincides with the celebration of the Philippines National Arts Month.
The event concluded successfully with the presence and support of Deutsche Bank staff, the Dean of UP-CPA, lead professors and student artists, BGC Art Foundation, and the country's top artists such as Rodel Tapaya, Marina Cruz, Vincent Padilla, Biboy Delotavo, Ricky Ambagan and Juvenal Sanso.
