CanKids aims to bring cancer survival rates among children in India to the global level of 70% to 95% and ensure highest quality of life for child cancer patients and their families. They have developed the Change for Childhood Cancer model to provide holistic support to families of children with cancer under its signature YANA – You are not Alone – programme. YANA is delivered through CanKids Hospital Support Units (CHSUs) and CanKids Care Centers (CCCs) at hospitals where children are treated for cancer. CanKids also enables better standards of treatment and care by partnering with cancer centres, assessing needs and filling gaps on an ongoing basis, through funding support, providing social support staff, enhancing capacities and driving quality care, research and impact assessment. Through stakeholder engagement and advocacy, it aims to ensure that childhood cancer is a child health priority in India.

Established in 2004, CanKids now operates in 44 pediatric oncology treatment centres in 17 cities, runs four Home Away from Homes in Delhi, Kolkata, Trivandrum and Chennai, the Canshala special school for children with cancer in Mumbai, and the only pediatric palliative care center in New Delhi. It has registered and supported over 21,000 families over the last 12 years.

As part of its Born to Be youth engagement initiative, Deutsche Bank supports four CHSUs: two in Mumbai and two in Delhi.  Our funds provide emergency medical assistance, social support teams, educational support, medical assistance and other psycho-emotional support to over 1,600 children and their families. The children come from all over the country and are primarily from low economic backgrounds. Their families can barely afford a living on their daily wages. The aim is to ensure that no child suffers because the family cannot afford treatment.
