Onboarding for new AkarakA scholars in Hong Kong, Philippines and Singapore

June 2017 │ Singapore

Education has the power to change lives – that is the belief that guides Akaraka, a non-profit that funds tertiary education for underprivileged students. Deutsche Bank has been supporting Akaraka since 2010, providing scholarships to hundreds of students in Singapore, Philippines and Hong Kong.

14 new students in Singapore joined the scholarship programme in May and an onboarding and orientation session to welcome the students was held in our Singapore office. A workshop on personal branding was also arranged for the Akaraka scholars in our office to equip them with the necessary life skills to navigate the corporate world.

In Philippines, Deutsche Bank volunteers also recently organised a mentoring session for the scholars, facilitated by Akaraka graduates who had successfully finished school, but came back to pay it forward and provide support, and share their experiences and network with the current batch of scholars.

Employees in Hong Kong are also highly engaged with Akaraka scholars in Hong Kong, organising various mentoring and fundraising activities.

This year, we will continue our partnership, providing scholarships to an additional 57 students.
