On the bus trip to the strawberry yard, the volunteers and students bonded over their excitement for the upcoming activity. The group paired off with each other in the greenhouse once they arrived at the strawberry yard. The volunteers first gave the students tips to pick strawberries and how to choose the strawberries with appropriate ripeness. After that, the volunteers and students cruised the covered rows of two strawberry greenhouses, selecting and tasting the fresh strawberries. Each volunteer and student took a bag of self-picked strawberries back home with great satisfaction.
The event was highly appreciated by all the participants. The students were very excited about the outdoors activity, which they are rarely able to participate in. Strawberry picking was a first for most of the students. "I will give the strawberries to my mother as a Mother's Day present," said Tang Jie, a student from Weifang, rounding up a very sweet day.
Weifang Sunshine House was set up in 2005, providing free day care services and education courses for mentally challenged students. Now there are 30 students in the Sunshine House. Deutsche Bank has been working with Weifang since 2008.
