Volunteers from Mumbai Service Centre spend day out with children from Janvi Charitable Trust

Volunteers from Mumbai Service Centre’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) team made the start to the vacation season memorable for children at NGO partner Janvi Charitable Trust (JCT) by taking them on a day’s outing to Kidzania – a simulated vocational learning platform. 30 children from JCT participated in a five-hour event that offered a blend of learning with entertainment via interactive real-life role-playing activities. From pizza and doughnut-making to being stylists and surgeons, the theme park offered a plethora of ‘job activities’ for the children to participate in. To do so, the children had to earn or spend simulated currency, thus giving them experience of real life economics and budgeting.

In the words of 14-year-old Aman Singh who started his day with pizza-making and ended with designing his own car, “Learning has never been so interesting. I wanted to try my hand at everything, but soon realised that I must keep earning ‘kidzos’ (currency in Kidzania) before spending. Earning kidzos by being a tiffin delivery boy or practicing as a dentist was fun too.”

What seemed to be endless activities for the children resulted from ceaseless support from the volunteers. Ensuring each child was able to participate in their activity of choice, managing their safety and wellness, and arranging timely meals kept the volunteers on their toes. Parveen Shaikh, a CR volunteer said, “No doubt all the volunteers put in their 100% managing the event – from pre-event planning to actual execution and post-event activities. The smiling faces of the children made it all pay off and left us with renewed enthusiasm to start planning the next event!”

The day, which began with an early breakfast for the participating children, ended with cake-cutting, group photographs, and gifts for each child, while the volunteers went home with smiles and sweet memories.
