Young Friends of the Hong Kong Arts Festival

February 2017 │ Hong Kong

Over 2,500 young people can experience the work of world-class artists at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, thanks to the Deutsche Bank sponsored, Young Friends programme. Young Friends gives students from less privileged backgrounds, free access to festival performances and activities.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a key cultural event in Asia, showcasing the work of over 1,400 artists each year. Young Friends is a long-term arts education initiative of the festival.

Running from February 16 to 18 March, art experiences open to Young Friends students include a rehearsal and workshop of the poignant family play A Floating Family, and a workshop with Triadic Ballet, who will perform a classic Russian ballet at the festival.

Werner Steinmueller, APAC CEO, attended the festival’s opening ceremony to mark the bank’s ongoing support for the Young Friends programme, meeting Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr C Y Leung.

Deutsche Bank supports Young Friends as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility youth engagement pillar, Born to Be. The programme aims to inspire creativity, team work and confidence in secondary school and university students, through the arts.

As well as watching performances, Young Friends students can attend rehearsals, workshops, meet-the-artist events and backstage tours, to see first-hand how professional productions are staged. In 2016, Deutsche Bank funding helped around 300 students, take part in these activities last year. The bank has sponsored Young Friends since 2014.
