Passing on the Passion - Breakfast performance with children from Rock-Ed in Manila
July 2011 │ Philippines
Working in partnership with Childhope Asia, a non-profit organization that works with vulnerable children, Deutsche Knowledge Services (DKS) in Manila, Philippines initiated the Rock-Ed (short for rock education) programme in 2009 as an opportunity for vulnerable children living on the streets to appreciate and learn about music. Every Saturday, different groups of 15 to 20 DKS staff volunteers meet 30 street children for a four-hour music session where the children are offered a meal and coached on how to play instruments such as the acoustic guitar, keyboard, drums and mentored in vocal and dance choreography.
Recently, the Deutsche Bank Global Business Services Regional Leadership Team culminated a four-day offsite activity with a Breakfast Acoustic and Dance Concert on 29 July 2011 performed at the DKS office by Rock-Ed particpants who demonstrated their talents in two acoustic acts and a pop jazz tune. Their inspiring performance clearly showed that when presented with opportunities, the marginalized children are able to achieve as much as those in a more privileged background.
