Dental surgery units set up to improve oral health of 8,000 school children

December 2011 │ Sri Lanka

As part of setting up cluster dental surgery units in remote parts of Sri Lanka with an aim of uplifting oral health among young and adolescent school children, our Deutsche Bank corporate volunteers participated at the installation ceremony of the first cluster dental surgery unit at Karawita Central Collage on December 2, 2011 in the Niwithigala District, approximately 100 kilometres from Colombo.

The Karawita Central Collage serves approximately 8,000 school children, covering seven schools in surrounding areas. Health authorities, in consultation with the education ministry, have also decided to use this clinic to provide dental and prenatal carein the area. Dental care will be provided to the school children during school hours and prenatal mothers would be catered for after school.

While achieving our primary objective of uplifting oral health among school children, the Bank has been able to help the local industry by selecting a local dental chair manufacturer for the project.

Installations of the other cluster dental surgery units will take place in early 2012.
