Deutsche Bank and Client Join Forces in a Corporate Responsibility Effort – Project Washing-thon

June 2013 │ Singapore

For the first time, Deutsche Bank Singapore teamed up with a customer beyond doing business and delivered much needed cleaned pre-loved clothes to deserving causes in Southeast Asia. Electrolux, a long time Global Transaction Banking customer in Asia, provided expertise in laundry and Deutsche Bank did what we are good at to drive collection efforts internally and sent our volunteers to wash, fold and pack!

The bank-wide collection took place throughout May. Staff from our Singapore office bought pre-loved clothes from their homes to collection points. The response was so overwhelming that the collection wagons overflowed every day. At the end there was a very satisfying result of 589kg of pre-loved clothes!

On the big day on June 15, 33 Deutsche volunteers marched down to Toa Payoh were Electrolux had set up rows of washing machines and dryers. The hard work continued where the volunteers formed lines like conveyor belts folding and packing the clothing that had been washed. At the end of the day, the volunteers were contented though exhausted from standing all day. They unanimously agreed that they are glad to have spent their Saturday on a really good cause. Volunteers from Deutsche and Electrolux worked together, exchanged their experiences of  Corporate Responsibility and even discussed the next collaboration.

With the help of charity partners MINDS and Blessings in a Bag, cartons of pre-loved clothes that had been washed, folded and nicely packed were shipped and distributed to children and adults in need in Singapore, Cambodia and Laos over the following weeks.

The Washing-thon met with an overwhelming response with generous donations from colleagues in Singapore. The event was well-received and successfully brought everyone together to support a good cause.
