Deutsche Bank celebrates Earth Week 2013 in Philippines

March 2013 │ Philippines

Over March 18 to 22, 2013, Deutsche Bank in Philippines celebrated Earth Week 2013 – an annual bank-wide event aimed at raising employee awareness of current environmental issues.

During this period, all employees globally were encouraged to take part in activities such as the i-Pledge, Earth Week Competition, Passion for the Planet, and Earth Hour. To further support this global event, the local Corporate Real Estate Services (CRES) department and Deutsche Knowledge Services (DKS) People’s Committee organized a number of Earth Week initiatives to encourage employee participation.

For example, eco-friendly tips were emailed to all employees every morning along with campaign notes for initiatives such as Water for a Week, Reducing Footprints, Green Transportation, and Meatless Friday. On March 20, CRES launched its Bin-the-Bin project, an initiative that was aimed at reducing total volume of plastic bin liners used by centralizing rubbish bins at strategic locations on every floor.

Over March 21 to 22, the pantry on the 18th floor became a venue for “eco-shopping”, where products made from environmentally-friendly materials were displayed for sale to employees. Social enterprises such as Human Nature, Jacinto and Lirio, Mori Notes, Seed Core Tablea, Rags2Riches, Luntian Bags, Messy Bessy and Lagu sold bags, journals, iPad cases, health and beauty products, cleaning items and others. The total sales generated from the bazaar amounted to EUR 1,800 which was donated to the vendors’ supported charities.

And on March 23, Deutschebankers gathered to participate in a half-day cacao tree planting activity in Katarungan Village, Muntinlupa City, an initiative made possible by the Social Environment Economic Development Core, Katarungan Village Association, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The volunteers learnt how cacao could benefit a society socially, environmentally, and economically. Before the event ended, Bank employees were reminded that concern for the environment should be continual in order for humans and nature to coexist over the long term.
