Deutsche Bank Hong Kong employees cook for the homeless

March 2012 │ Hong Kong

Employees from Deutsche Bank Hong Kong made a visit to Home of Love, a charity which provides assistance to the poor, on 31 March 2012 to prepare meals for 100 homeless people.

The call for volunteers for this activity received an overwhelming response with employees from various departments turning up with their family members.

Gathering on a Saturday morning, the team of 22 volunteers set off to a local market to purchase a variety of ingredients including vegetables, meat and fruit with the target of preparing dinner for 100 people by 4.30pm. Under the leadership of culinary experts with the group, the volunteers managed to prepare 3 dishes with rice and soup on schedule.

In addition to their efforts in the kitchen, the volunteers also donated pre-owned clothing to Home of Love which was highly appreciated by the beneficiaries. One of the volunteers remarked “This experience is both inspirational and emotional. People who rely on free meals everyday have a very different life to those with warm homes. Volunteering brings not only sense of fulfillment but also lets you see your own life in new ways. I am glad to be part of the event - we can always make a difference.”

Established in 1983, Home of Love is part of the Missionaries of Charity, a Catholic congregation started by Mother Teresa of Calcutta in 1950 which consists of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries. Beneficiaries include refugees, ex-prostitutes, the mentally ill, sick children, abandoned children, lepers, HIV/AIDS patients, the aged, and convalescent. To learn more, go to:
