Deutsche Bank Hong Kong hiked for a green cause

January 2012 │ Hong Kong

Saturday, 14 January started bright and early for 36 Deutsche Bank Hong Kong staff who were about to embark on the annual Green Power Hike. Deutsche Bank sponsored a total of nine teams (four participants in each) - three teams in each of the 10 kilometres, 25 kilometres and 50 kilometres categories.

Deutsche Bank hikers of all levels came together and trained together in the lead up to the event.   The 50km course followed the Hong Kong Trail on the island, starting at The Peak and finishing at Big Wave Bay; the 25km course started in Tai Tam Country Park and also finished at Big Wave Bay; and the 10km started at Aberdeen Country Park and finished at the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association.

Since the event started in 1994, over 40,000 participants have hiked for this cause and raised over HKD$ 50 million.  Donations are used for environmental education, enabling future generations to learn to protect, appreciate and respect nature.

Hong Kong's per capita daily carbon emissions are 50% higher than the world average for developed cities.  Green Power was founded in 1988 by a group of volunteers concerned about local environmental affairs and aims to inspire people to better appreciate the natural environment and to raise funds for environmental, educational and conservation programs.
