Deutsche Bank welcomes autumn with Singapore Chinese Orchestra

August 2012 │ Singapore

As part of Deutsche Bank Singapore's 40th anniversary this year, the Bank is sponsoring a series of four lunchtime concerts performed by musicians from the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) in the lobby of our Singapore office in One Raffles Quay. The building’s landlord, Raffles Quay Asset Management (RQAM), which is committed to creating a more lively workplace, supported this initiative by sponsoring the staging of the concerts.

The third concert was held on August 8 and was themed ‘Autumn Fantasy’, featuring a traditional Yunnan folk song, a Debussy piece, and even a Latin American tango piece. We also invited elderly folks from St Luke’s ElderCare, one of the winners of Charity of the Year Singapore, to enjoy the performance with us.

The Bank hosted lunch for the elderly and more than 15 Deutsche Bank volunteers from Credit Risk Management took time off to care for and help escort the elderly around our office premises. The majority of the volunteers had no prior volunteering experience and were apprehensive of how the elderly would react to them, but all fell into place perfectly. The volunteers found the interactions with the elderly to be fun and enlightening. “They were very positive about their lives and it put into perspective that sometimes in life, being happy and grateful is a virtue,” commented one of the volunteers.

The elderly folks enjoyed the concert led by the spirited associate conductor Quek Ling Kiong, and left our One Raffles Quay office with delighted smiles on their faces.
