The event started with lunch. Each intern was paired with a student buddy and participated as mentors in activities to encourage the development of the students’ communication and presentation skills. The initial shyness and slight apprehension of some of the students quickly dissipated as lively conversations over pizza filled the classroom atmosphere.
Following lunch, the interns and their buddies broke up into small groups and participated in an art activity. With the assistance of the interns, the student buddies created ’me-boards’, a pictorial representation of their interests and hobbies using images found in magazines. After completion, each student presented their “me-board” to their respective group.
A memorable time was had by the interns and the student buddies alike. The interns were inspired by the enthusiasm of the Princess Alexandra School students, and at the same time the students enjoyed a valuable opportunity to develop their communication skills and make a new friend along the way.
