Establishing dental clinics in remote locations of Sri Lanka

November 2011 │ Sri Lanka

Deutsche Bank is helping to establish a cluster of dental clinics targeted at young and adolescent school children in remote locations of Sri Lanka.

As part of its broader CSR initiative to ensure community development in the countries that Deutsche Bank operates in, the Bank has decided to embark on a project to address the lack of education and health services for the villagers.

As a first step towards achieving this goal, Deutsche Bank proposed to establish five cluster dental clinics targeting the Ratnapura, Badulla, Monaragala and Polonnaruwa districts – which were based on the recommendations of Dr Jayatissa Bandara, the Deputy Director General of dental health at the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition.  This programme will benefit over 100 schools and reach an estimated 40,000 school children in these areas.

The ministry will be providing trained dental therapists and designating separate rooms for this purpose, while Deutsche Bank is sponsoring hydraulic dental chairs complete with lights and compressors.  The project began in late November and will end in late January.
