Hong Kong gives Chinese New Year red packets to the disadvantaged

March 2013 │ Hong Kong

2013 and the Year of the Snake started off with a bang as the Bank’s Hong Kong employees raised over HKD60,000 for the first Corporate Responsibility event of the year. The campaign, driven by Global Technology, encouraged employees to Pass on their Passion by Passing on a Red Packet with a donation in the spirit of Chinese New Year to aid the HKSPC (Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children) in building a Children’s Resident Home.

Taking advantage of ICC’s impeccable facilities, the team was able to raise awareness of the campaign among the 1,500 strong staff in Hong Kong.

Red packets (or Lai-See in Cantonese) filled donation boxes to the brim as Hong Kong staff showed their generosity the week after the Chinese New Year holidays. On the last day of the campaign, the HKSPC visited the office to help with the lucky draw. Three winners received a lucky Lion Dance, as is customary of Chinese New Year traditions. Corporate Responsibility has always been an important part of the Bank’s culture and core values; the Bank’s generosity will go a long way in the Year of the Snake.

The Children’s Resident Home provides full time care for over 100 children throughout Hong Kong. These children are either orphaned or referred to HKSPC by the court, and range from newborn to age 3.
