As part of Deutsche Bank’s sponsorship of the Young Friends Programme at Hong Kong Arts Festival 2014, we invited 15 students from PAS to attend a rehearsal performance of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, before their performance with the international pianist, Maria João Pires, on the same night at the festival. A group of employee volunteers accompanied the students to care for them.
The students were given a short talk on the background of the orchestra and the great composer Ludwig van Beethoven, and then were treated to the rehearsal performance. Students were also given a chance to interact with the principal conductor, Robin Ticciati and the pianist, Maria João Pires. Students were very curious about life in the orchestra and raised a lot of interesting questions to both of them.
“I was amazed by how much interest and enthusiasm these children had about music at such a tender age,” said one of the employee volunteers who joined this event. “I was really happy that they enjoyed themselves at the event.”
Over 15,000 Young Friends attended 82 performances, rehearsals and educational specials during the 42nd Hong Kong Arts Festival which took place between February 18 and March 22, 2014. Over 20,700 students participated in the 45 arts education demonstrations staged at different secondary schools in Hong Kong.
