In its second year, the Republic Run this year had more than 300 participants, ranging from toddlers and kids, to youngsters and grandparents. The youngest attendee, one of our employees’ one year old son, flagged off the run. The cool morning played perfect host as the group jogged along the scenic suburbs of Bandra, and the roads from Bandstand to Carter Road were awash in Deutsche Bank’s corporate blue colour.
Organised in celebration of India’s Republic Day, the Republic Run also raised funds for one of the NGOs that Deutsche Bank supports in India.
This year, the beneficiary was Learning Space Foundation, an NGO which works in the outskirts of Mumbai (Vajreshwari) with severely disadvantaged tribal communities helping to fill up the inadequacies in the rural educational system. 17 children from the NGO participated in the run. These children, most of whom had never visited the megapolis of Mumbai before, were super excited as they jogged past the houses of famous Bollywood celebrities. Swift on their feet, it was no surprise that the tribal kids outclassed the runners in all categories.
At the prize giving ceremony, Shrinath Bolloju, Group COO India, thanked everyone for participating and celebrating India’s Republic Day in this manner. He also presented a cheque donation to Nitin Orayan, The founder Director of Learning Space Foundation promised to use the funds to set up a sports foundation for the tribal kids. Striders, the agency which made the arrangements for the race, also came forward to commit to training at no cost.
After collecting their completion certificates, the participants sang the National Anthem which resounded in the amphitheatre and marked the end of another successful Republic Run.
