Deutsche Bank continues its partnership with Umang

January 2013 │ India

Umang is a non-profit organization Deutsche Bank has been supporting for the past three years in India. Umang reaches out to individuals with mental and physical disabilities and helps them to integrate into society.

A group of 15 Deutsche volunteers, including Mr. Shrinath Bolloju, Chief Operating Officer in India, visited Umang.  The group met the NGO Trustee, Mrs. Deepak Kalra, and was briefed about the work done by the NGO.  Mrs. Kalra expressed appreciation for the Bank’s support.

The volunteers went around the school and were greeted cheerfully by the students.  Sweets were distributed to all students which were received with delight.

The volunteers also visited vocational training classes where youths aged 14 to 20 are taught to make candles, quilted bags and other social enterprise products.  The group was impressed by the tenacity of these youths, working hard to earn their own keep.

Mrs. Kalra explained that the NGO requires help in establishing its volunteering programme as well as a skills development programme for the students.  Mr. Bolloju and the Deutsche Bank volunteers were impressed with the work the NGO has been doing and thus agreed to continue providing aid to the organisation.
