The occasion was a special Deutsche Bank social initiative, aptly called '5,000 Popcorns', a simultaneous movie screening in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata of the widely-appreciated animated film, Delhi Safari. 5,000 children in these four cities were invited to experience the magic of movies in a multiplex theatre.
With enjoyment obvious on their faces, the children watched the characters Alex, Bagga, Sultan and Bajrangi’s antics, songs and their resolve to reclaim their home in the forest, by going all the way to New Delhi to plead with the Prime Minister! Throughout the film, the children cheered, clapped and sang along with the characters. The children carried back with them an uplifting message of social empowerment that they are seldom exposed to in an entertaining way – that of ecological sustainability.
This initiative was organised in partnership with PVR Cinemas, one of the country's premier multiplex chains. Deutsche Bank invited children from all its partner NGOs and municipal schools, as well as other NGOs associated with PVR Cinemas, to participate in the event.
Speaking on the occasion in Mumbai, Shrinath Bolloju, Chief Operating Officer, Deutsche Bank India, said, "5,000 Popcorns is an initiative to spread joy and warmth during the holiday season and also to reach out to Generation Next through a medium which appeals to them. We are delighted with the enthusiastic response we have received from the children and NGOs."
The children enjoyed their day out; and for many of the volunteers this day at the movies will be most cherished for the smiles it brought to so many.
