Deutsche Bank joins MERCY’s International Humanitarian Relief Charity Run

March 2014 │ Malaysia

Deutsche Bank Malaysia joined the Malaysian Medical Relief Society (MERCY Malaysia) in their first-ever International Humanitarian Relief Charity Run to raise funds and to create awareness on MERCY Malaysia’s endeavors to provide health-based humanitarian aid for both local and international disasters.

The bank registered 40 staff for the event and some brought their family members, including a baby in his pram for the morning seven-kilometre run. Runners participated in a warm-up exercise routine and were treated to a concert and prize draws afterwards.   The event demonstrated that anyone who can run can volunteer and all runners were encouraged to take selfies at each checkpoint and tweet about the run to raise awareness.

MERCY showcased their Emergency Response Unit (ERU) field hospital on Padang Merbok where participants could view mocked-up facilities including an operating theatre, outpatient ward, and how medical aid is delivered in locations hit by natural disaster.   MERCY was recently in Ormoc, Philippines to provide medical aid to survivors of Typhoon Haiyan.

On behalf of Deutsche Bank, Donna Chang, Chief Country Officer in Malaysia, presented the Bank’s cheque contribution to MERCY Malaysia after the run.
