Deutsche Bank commits to the tenth school building project in Philippines

February 2012 │ Philippines

Deutsche Bank Manila recently committed to funding the construction of a two-storey four-classroom school building in Tanza, Navotas City, a fishing village located in Metro Manila.

The project is undertaken in partnership with SM Foundation and SM Prime Holdings, Inc., the Philippines’ largest mall operator, and falls under the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd)’s Adopt-A-School programme.

This will be Deutsche Bank’s tenth school building project in Philippines. Since 2004, the Bank has strongly espoused support for the country’s public educational system given the shortage of classrooms and other learning resources and the ever-increasing demand for free public education.  To date, Deutsche Bank has sponsored the construction of 26 classrooms located in schools within Metro Manila (particularly Quezon City, Taguig, Navotas, Caloocan) and nearby provinces (including Rizal, Bulacan and Cavite), benfitting more than 21,000 students.

Corporate volunteers from Deutsche Bank Manila complement the school building projects with volunteering activities such as refurbishing the schools’ libraries with books and furniture donations, painting murals on good values, and organizing outreach programmes for the students.

The Philippine Department of Education’s Adopt-A-School aims to create partnerships among the business sector, NGOs, civic groups, individuals and the Education department in providing much needed assistance and service to public schools, and help address the perennial problems of classroom, desk and textbook backlogs.
