Deutsche Bank sponsors construction of schools in Manila

May 2012 │ Philippines

In May 2012, corporate volunteers from Philippines visited the Tanza Elementary School in Navotas City, a fishing village located in Metro Manila. The volunteers, together with the students, painted a mural for the school. The mural depicts children caring for the environment and highlights the impact of climate change.

The corporate volunteering activity was a prelude to the turnover ceremony held in the following week.  The ceremony was to inaugurate the opening of the two-storey school building with four classrooms – funded by Deutsche Bank and the SM Foundation.

Since 2004, Deutsche Bank Manila has sponsored the construction of 31 classrooms located in 11 public schools within Metro Manila and nearby provinces to facilitate students’ learning and alleviate space constraints. Included in these sponsorships are tables and chairs for the teachers and students, ceiling fans, blackboards and toilet facilities.

Deutsche Bank was represented in the turnover ceremony by Annie Yeo, Head of CSR Asia, Rhoneil Fajardo, Chief Operating Officer Manila and Anton Jacomina, HR Business Partner for Manila. The ceremony was also attended by Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco, officials of the Department of Education and representatives from the SM Group and the Tanza community.
