It all started as an initiative of the DKS Global Technology team. A number of pre-owned/refurbished units have been sold during the DKS Tiangge (Flea Market) held last November 2011. The Flea Market activity, organised by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee of DKS, was able to come up with approximately EUR 4,000, which were added to the educational fund of the DKS scholars. The remaining units were finally distributed to the blind scholars of RBI, who visited the DKS office in Taguig on March 16 for the handover.
The event’s highlight was a demonstration from a visually impaired RBI staff and a former scholar of the organisation, Joyce Lopez, who provided a preview on how she and the students work around using laptops with the use of JAWS (Job Access with Speech) – a computer screen reader program in Microsoft Windows that allows blind and visually impaired users to read the screen.
