Philippines Flood Relief efforts

December 2011 │ Philippines

Typhoon Washi hit southern Mindanao Island and surrounding areas in Philippines in December 2011, killing more than a thousand and displacing hundreds of thousands more. Deutsche Bank has contributed to the flood relief efforts.

A donation was made to Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan.   The University opened its campus as an Evacuation Centre to provide shelter to those whose houses have been destroyed by the floods.  The University Clinic has also been opened to treat patients. The funds donated by the Bank were used for the purchase of food, water, medical supplies, and blankets that were distributed to the flood victims.

Another donation was made to Habitat for Humanity Philippines.  The Habitat have already finished the initial intervention, distributing 1,000 cleaning and tool kits to the affected families to enable them to clean their houses and prepare it for rebuilding. The next phase is to distribute at least 5,000 shelter repair kits (comprising of plywood, corrugated sheets, nails and hammer) to enable the victims to immediately rebuild their homes.  The funds donated by the Bank will be used to sponsor 120 shelter repair kits.
