They were tasked with painting the rusty legs of 44 tables, and cleaning windows and grilles in the centre. While the tasks may sound simple, upon speaking to the centre manager, the volunteers learnt that some of the students in the centre were sensitive to the rust and the windows was inaccessible to the Centre’s elderly cleaning staff. That gave the volunteers much more meaning in their tasks.
The enthusiastic volunteers got to work almost immediately and put in all efforts to make the classrooms a better environment for learning and having fun in future. The simple aspiration to make the centre a better learning location for the students brought everyone together, with every volunteer working hard at scraping the rust with sandpaper, painting the legs of the tables over with a new coat of black paint and wiping all edges of the window panes.
The students at the centre created a lovely picture to thank the Bank and the volunteers for taking the time and effort to help clean the centre. The event was only successful because of all the volunteers who took time on a Saturday to make a difference.
