Renewing our commitment to education for children

October 2012 │ India

On September 19, a group of 65 enthusiastic Deutsche Bank volunteers from Jaipur came together to experience first-hand the joy of giving. They started off by visiting a government-run high school, where Akshay Patra, a non-government organization, distributes food to schoolchildren. The NGO, supported by Deutsche Bank Group, provides mid-day meals to approximately 11.5 million underprivileged children studying in government schools, thereby motivating them to stay in school and receive a proper education. The volunteers spent time interacting with students and later helped in serving food supplied by Akshay Patra to approximately 180 students.

After this event, volunteers visited the Akshay Patra kitchen to witness how the food was prepared and supplied to various schools.  The floor manager shared the process involved in preparing food, packing and supplying it to around 80 schools across Jaipur.  It was encouraging to note that organisation had received a certification to ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) norms and to see the immaculately clean kitchen.  The volunteers also visited the huge storage facility where large quantities of food grains were stored in a moisture-free, clean and regulated environment.  The volunteers later visited the meditation centre and were briefed about the other activities Akshay Patra is involved in.

To end the day, the volunteers presented a cheque donation on behalf of Deutsche Bank Group and renewed the commitment to Akshay Patra’s noble cause.
