Deutsche Bank volunteers with SPCA to support animal welfare in Singapore

March 2013 │ Singapore

Over 60 Deutsche Bank employees and their family members participated in a meaningful and fun volunteering day at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) campus in Bartley, Singapore on February 23.

After a short briefing on the organisation by Winnie Lim, a fundraising officer from SPCA, the volunteers were grouped into various teams depending on their skills and interests. Each team was assigned with an SPCA regular volunteer who shared helpful tips on the volunteering tasks and personal insights into the work of SPCA with our volunteers. Seven families (with the youngest member being a pre-schooler) helped prepare over 300 donation collection tins for the upcoming Furry Friends Fund fund-raising activity. Volunteers also enhanced the living environment of the animal residents at SPCA by cleaning up the campus, painting the rooms' walls and clearing the debris and weeds in the garden.

This year, a new volunteering activity was introduced: 12 volunteers were asked to help walk the dogs which is part of the centre's daily routine, and all participants had a great time connecting with the animals. Joanne Chua, one of the volunteers on the day, commented: "The event was thoughtful and well organised for both DB employees and family members -- it provided an opportunity for everyone to do some community service while interacting with the animals.  It was heart-warming and humbling to see the dedication and hard work of the small group of regular volunteers in ensuring the animals' well-being; they went to great lengths to make us feel welcome and in valuing our efforts."

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Singapore (SPCA) is a registered charity supporting animal welfare initiatives. Each month the SPCA receives approximately 600 pets and stray animals and the organization provides various animal welfare services to the community such as 24-hour emergency service for sick and injured animals, sterilisation programme for stray animals, and public education programme at schools to promote kindness to animals and birds.
