dbPride leads Deutsche Bank volunteers to support LCSS's ‘Run for Life’

June 2013 │ Singapore

dbPride members, straight allies, friends and family came out in full force to support the first Life Community Services Society (LCSS) ’Run for Life’ 10k charity run on Saturday, June 8. LCSS is a non-profit organisation that provides support to the needy children of families with either presently or formerly incarcerated parents. dbPride is the Bank's employee-resource group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight ally supporters whose aim is to provide a safe, inclusive, and productive work environment for all staff.

Despite the 5 a.m. start and the muddy, rain-soaked grounds at the East Coast Park, 80 Deutsche Bank volunteers and interns from across a number of divisions, joined 40 other volunteers to happily assume roles as marshals, time-keepers, medal-minders, unofficial cheerleaders, water providers and bag attendants, making the event safe and fun for all of the 2,738 registered runners.

Deutsche Bank Singapore, through a landmark Corporate Responsibility initiative in celebration of its 40th year in this country, donated about SGD 200,000 last year to LCSS through the 2012 Charity of the Year competition, and chose to provide continued support to the charity this year with volunteer manpower.  To date, this is the largest volunteer turnout that Deutsche Bank Singapore has participated in, and dbPride couldn't have accomplished it without teamwork from Corporate Responsibility, Group Technology and Operations (GTO) CARES, as well as our on-campus graduate recruiting teams.

“Getting people directly involved is an equally important way for the Bank to show its support to charities.,” said Savitaryben Patel, one of the dbPride leaders and a lead organiser of this event.  “It was great to be able to unite dbPride members and allies with GTO CARES volunteers, see Deutsche staff who hadn’t previously met talking and working together, and to continue to contribute to the local community."

The inaugural LCSS ‘Run for Life’ charity run raised a very impressive SGD 467,000 which will be shared across four programmes that serve 950 disadvantaged children, at-riskyouths, and their caregivers.

It was definitely worth the getting dirty and the early start.  And in the end, it proved to be a fun time for all!
