Halpe Maha Vidyalaya serves 28 small schools in the area with an estimated student population of 7,700 children. The dental clinic will also be serving the prenatal mothers in the area after school and during school holidays. A qualified dentist and an assistant will be employed by the health ministry on a full time basis at this facility.
According to the government officials, this dental clinic fills a long standing need in the area where no such facilities have been previously available and the students had to travel to far to government hospitals for their treatment - hence keeping them away from their studies and their vocations for more than a few days depending on the number of visits the treatment requires.
The dental clinic in Dutugemunu Maha Vidyalaya will serve approximately 30 small schools in the area with a student population of roughly 10,000 children and will treat the prenatal mothers after school and during school holidays. Qualified personnel have also been hired for the clinic.
Installations of the other cluster dental surgeries are scheduled for 23 February.
