The book launch was held on July 26 at a distinguished and well-represented gathering which included the Minister of Health, Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Country Head of the World Health Organization (WHO), and many other eminent personalities at the National Blood centre auditorium.
This book, a first of its kind to be published in the local language for the benefit of the greater public in Sri Lanka, fills a long-felt need for a reference book on the basic understanding of injury and injury prevention. It is poised to be a key reference resource in the field of injury prevention in Sri Lanka, targeting school children, households, teachers and first aid workers. The author is already in negotiations to publish this book in Tamil and English for the benefit of other communities in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
To further improve the reach of the book, Deutsche Bank has purchased 500 copies which we hope to distribute among poor communities and schools in high risk areas where drowning, burns, snake bites and suicide are major causes of concern. Deutsche Bank will be involved in the distribution process along with the author of this book and the education ministry officials in the near future.
