After receiving a briefing from SJS, the volunteers were split into small teams. Each team was to visit up to three elderly people to deliver and install a brand new fan to ease the summer heat. The volunteers also demonstrated some simple exercises that the elderly could practise to maintain good health, and chatted with the elderly to share their life stories. One of the elderly folk even bought breakfast with drinks for the visiting team. The team politely denied the offer, but was very grateful for such kind consideration.
The event not only helped elderly people in need, but was also a timely reminder for the volunteers who expressed during de-briefing that they should spend more time with their parents. SJS is considering arranging another similar event in winter to deliver electric heaters to help other senior citizens. Stay tuned!
