Deutsche Bank volunteers with Taiwan SPCA

December 2011 │ Taiwan

The Deutsche Bank and Taiwan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) volunteering event on 10 December 2011 brought corporate volunteers to the Zhonghe City Community Animal Shelter where volunteers assisted shelter staff in various activities.

The Deutsche Bank volunteers were first given a tour of the shelter facilities and the holding area for the animals, followed by a brief introduction of the different types of jobs that need to be done at the shelter on a daily basis. Volunteers were then given gloves and leashes to walk the dogs. Teams of two proceeded to the kennels where the dogs were taken either to the exercise area or a walkaround the shelter grounds. After each round of walks, the volunteers proceeded to fill out a report that documented the observations he or she made of the dog during their walk. This is to help potential adopters better understand the behavioral patterns of the dog.

The volunteers also took on the task of brushing and feeding the dogs and additional tasks of cleaning the kennels and hosing down the grounds to clear debris. Toys, snacks, and blankets were also given to the animals before departure.

The core mission of the Taiwan SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is to alleviate the suffering of animals through education, campaigning to change public perception of animals, investigating cases of animal cruelty, and protecting animals through various other means.
